STIMULUS

This is a Max Speed Workout mixed with what is otherwise called “odd positions”. We utilize the principles of Constraint-led practice and Deliberate Practice to create a workout that emphasizes some positions that our brain doesn’t enjoy to be in. The single arm is designed to be weird but adding in a “Build” component is something that we don’t always do with drills but teaching the body how turn and rotate itself without the help of the other arm will help learn how to do so. We further increase the challenge with adding a buoy at the ankles. Finding a way to go forward is essentially the goal of the set. Adding max speed with MAX intention while keeping things dynamic in changing environment forcing higher levels of cognitive activity for the athlete.

RESPONSE

Our brain doesn’t like things that are hard but that’s exactly why we need to do things that are hard. NOT just hard sets physically but things that are hard to figure out. All the time is see athletes that are grinders they’ll do anything but the second I put a constraint on them that forces them to slow down, they freak. This for instance is the thing they need to do more than just the physically hard stuff but literally slow down focus and do a new skill/new problem correctly and try to solve it.
